Tournament Rules

   

1. Home team will wear dark jerseys, away team will wear their light jerseys

2. Pucks will be supplied by the host team for all games for warm up.

3. Any coach or team official who, in the opinion of the tournament committee

displays poor sportsmanship or a bad example, shall be suspended from the

tournament.

4. No protests shall be allowed.

5. GreyJay will be used for scoring and penalties. Teams are responsible for

populating the player and coach information prior to the game.

6. The coach shall have the team in the arena 45 minutes before game time. If the

program is running ahead, games maybe advanced.

7. Teams will vacate the dressing rooms 20 minutes after the game, leaving them in

a clean state.

8. Any team which does not show for a game will lose by default 5-0.

9. All round robin games will be 3 fifteen-minute stop clock periods with 5 minute

warm-up on dirty ice from the game before. The ice will be flooded after the

warm-up and after the second period.

10. In the event of a tie after 3 periods of play, a single 5 minute sudden death 3 on 3

overtime period stopped time will take place. If the game is still tied after the

single overtime period, a shootout will take place. Each team will be allowed 1

goalie and 3 initial shooters, beginning with the visiting team. If still tied after 3

shooters, the shootout will become sudden death. No player may shoot twice

unless the players on the team have made a shot.

11. Points for round robin will be awarded by 3 points for a win, 2 points for an

overtime win and 1 point for an overtime loss.

 

12. Each team guaranteed 3 games

13. Proof of age of players must be available upon request of the tournament

committee. No player shall be 19 years of age prior to September 1, 2023.

14. There will be 2 divisions of 4 teams. Each division will play a single round robin

game with the 3 teams in their own division. The top 2 teams in each division will

advance to playoffs.

15. At the end of round robin, if 2 or more teams are tied in their own division, the

following tie breaking format will be used in order listed:

Ties After Pool Play

a. Head to head results of the teams involved

b. Total points earned in games amongst the tied teams.

c. Goal differential in games between the tied teams (goals for, less goals

against).

d. If still tied repeat steps a-d but use the record of all the teams in the

pool, not just tied teams.

e. If still tied, the higher standings will be determined on the ratio of goals

for, to goals against to three (3) decimal places (goals for divided by

goals against). In calculating this ratio, only the records of the teams

tied against each other shall be considered.

f. If still tied

g. Fewest goals-against in games between the tied teams.

h. Fewest goals-against in all games.

i. Most goals-for in games between the tied teams.

j. Most goals-for in all games.

k. Fewest penalty minutes.

16. The tie breakers establish the standings in the round robin

17. Team that finishes first in the division will play the 2nd place team in the other

division in the semi-finals. The first-place team will be the home team in the

semifinals.

18. During crossover or semi-final games, a tie will be broken by the following:

(a) 5 minute sudden death 3 on 3 overtime period stopped time, if still

tied

(b) A shootout, each team will use one goaltender and 3 skaters, if

still tied there will be a sudden death shootout.

(c) Visitors shoot first. No player can shoot twice until all players on

the team have been used.

 

19. Home team in the finals will be awarded to the team with the best round robin

record. If tied then the tiebreaking formula will be used beginning at (e)

(a) In championship game the overtime format will be a five-minute

stop time sudden death 4 on 4 overtime.

(b) if still tied there will be a ten-minute sudden death stop time 3 on

3 overtime period. (c) If still tied each team will use one

goaltender and 3 skaters for a sudden death shootout (same

shootout rules as the semifinals).

(c) Visitors shoot first. No player can shoot twice until all players on

the team have been used.

 

20. the tournament chair reserves the right to use a shoot out format depending on

the time constraints.

21. In the event of a 5 goal spread during round robin play in the third period, the

time will change to straight running time and will not revert back if the margin

narrows. Minor penalties are 3 minutes when straight time.

22. Tournament committee decisions are final.

23. All Royals games will be played at the Arena. If the Royals are in a Sem-

Final game, they will play in the Semi-Final Game at the Arena (Game #13).

24. When Royals are playing at the Arena, they will use the home bench in the

Antigonish Arena even if they are the away team. They will warm up in the

away end zone if they are the away team but will use the home bench. The

home bench is the bench closest to the penalty box.
